Many people believe that chiropractors specialize only in back pain, however that’s a misconception. Not only are chiropractors trained in providing relief for muscular and nerve pain but much more. Chiropractors can provide advice and help for many different issues, including headaches.

There are various causes of headaches. Though painful and sometimes debilitating, most are not caused by a serious health issue. From mild to severe in pain, headaches can come on often or just sporadically.

Headaches such as migraine, tension, and cluster are the main types. Various things can trigger a headache. Triggers can be anything from stress, certain actions, scents even food, etc. It's helpful to identify and know your triggers. Knowing these can help prevent these headaches from happening in the first place.

One of the ways to help prevent headaches is by visiting a chiropractor like Mecham Chiropractic. A possible misaligned spine or even muscle may be triggering your headaches. Not only adjusting your spine but a chiropractor can provide you advice on nutrition and supplements as well as how to reduce muscle tension and headaches in the way you set up your office space. Additionally, at Mecham Chiropractic, Dr. Cody can show you helpful stretches to keep those joints and muscles happier.

Rather than taking pain pills and relying on them to resolve your headaches, talk to a chiropractor. Just be aware it may take more than one single visit to see a lasting difference. However, over time, you may be able to say good riddance to ongoing headaches and find the pain free peace you're wanting.

Keeping Your Child’s Back Healthy

Back pain is becoming much more common in children? Here are three important ways to help your child’s back stay healthy:
Always make sure the backpack your child carries is not too large or heavy. As a general rule, your child should carry a backpack that weighs no more than 5% to 10% of their own body weight. A rolling backpack could be a good option if your child has a lot of heavy books. You also may want to consider borrowing or purchasing a book or set of books to keep at home each year so your child doesn’t have to transport heavy books home each day for homework.
No slouching! Help your children learn and practice proper posture as toddlers. It’s not just about standing up straight when you are walking. Children need to learn to sit up straight when working on a computer, playing a video game or watching television. Make it a family rule that everyone has to take breaks from the electronics at regular intervals to get up and move around.
Promote physical activity from the start. Start the exercise habit early! Don’t just encourage your young ones to go out and play. Make daily exercise — walking, playing in the park, running around the yard — a part of your family’s routine.

Don’t Wait on Pain

Pain is the body’s way of telling you something is wrong. Don't wait hoping it clears on its own. The body has a great ability to compensate to try and rid the pain. This does not mean your body fixed its self. It means it has found a way to shut the pain pathway down for a while. The chances are it will most likely come back.

Chiropractic helps find the mechanism for what’s generating the pain and with the right treatment resolve the problem for good. Chiropractic utilizes manual specific manipulation to restore proper motion to injured or hurt areas. Therapeutic modalities such as massage, ultrasound and electrical stimulation are used to work the soft tissue around the injured site. Then proper rehabilitative exercises are taught to the patient to strengthen the area.

Chiropractic may not be the “cure all” for every injury but it is a very successful way of correcting multiple injuries without surgery, oral drugs or injections. So don’t put off getting in to see your chiropractor when you’re injured because the longer you wait the chances are you’re making it worse.

Simple Ways To Improve Your Health

Everyone wants to feel better and eat healthier, but sometimes we forget the simple daily things we can do to improve our health. With spring in the air and temperatures rising our activities move outside and we shed all the extra layers of clothing such as scarves, boots, and coats.

Here are a few simple ways to help you create a healthier lifestyle in your own home.

Drink More Water. Your body is 90 percent water and needs water for almost every function.  Many of the aches and pains, headaches, and other symptoms we experience would lessen if we just drank more water.

Go for a brisk walk. Your body was made to move. Your heart is a muscle that needs movement to function optimally.
We know this but we often need a reminder to just do it.

Stand up. Do you work in an office? sometimes just standing up, stretching, and maybe even take a quick walk around the building can boost your spirits and improve your health.

Less carbs. Carbohydrates have the biggest impact on blood sugar and insulin levels, by lowering your intake blood sugar levels are controlled and insulin levels are minimized.

Hug someone you love. When you hug someone you love, your body releases feel-good hormones like oxytocin that
ward off depression.

Fruits and Vegetables.
Veggies and fruits are loaded with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants, which have been shown to protect against chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer. They are also low in calories, making them a great choice for your waistline.

Here are just a few daily changes you can make to improve your health and boost your mood.

Chiropractic Can Be Misunderstood

Chiropractic can be very misunderstood. Though the chiropractic profession was started over 120 years ago, Hippocrates the father of medicine coined the phrase look well to the spine for the cause of disease in c. 460 - c. 370 BC. It is well know that nerve interference can cause a multitude of physical problems from headaches all the way to organ dysfunction.

Chiropractic aims at removing nerve interference by specific spinal adjustments. Chiropractic is not a cure all but it is a method that is proven to work over and over again. Chiropractic has taken a lot of scrutiny by the medical field in years past, but results don't lie and the medical community has begun utilizing chiropractic more and more.

Our office strives for a resolution to the problems patients come to us with. We utilize orthopedic, neurologic, x-ray imaging, and specific chiropractic examination in diagnosing and treating our patients.  Through examination, if we find chiropractic treatment is not necessary we will refer the patient to the appropriate medical professional. Our office works with general practitioners, orthopedists, neurologists and physical therapists. Our Goal is to find the problem and solve it. If we cannot, we will send you to whom we feel can.
